No timeline on decision on harassment allegations against Broomfield football coach Gary Davies

Gary Davies (DAVID R JENNINGS)

By Enterprise staff

Broomfield police on Tuesday submitted a report to the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office on their investigation into harassment allegations made against Broomfield High School football coach Gary Davies.

DA's office spokeswoman Krista Flannigan said the office has received reports, but there is no timeline yet for when a filing decision will be made.

Police spokesman Sgt. David Walts said the alleged incident occurred during Broomfield's game against Standley Lake High School on Oct. 12. Someone reported the incident to school staff, and staff reported it to police, he said.

Davies last week was placed on administrative leave for undisclosed reasons, BVSD director of communications Briggs Gamblin said.

Gamblin did not specify why, since the matter is a personnel issue.

"We don't discuss employee personnel, health or disciplinary issues as a matter of district policy," he said.

Davies said he could not comment on why he was put on leave when contacted Saturday night, but did express hope he would return to his teaching and coaching positions soon.

Apple 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro hands-on!

Apple 13inch Retina MacBook Pro handson!

Apple just introduced its second Retina display MacBook: the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which starts at $1,699 and is shipping today. Just months after the 15-incher was gifted with a display that packs more pixels than your existing HDTV, the 13-inch sibling is receiving similar treatment. Unveiled today in San Jose alongside the iPad mini, the intensely dense 13-inch MBP is true to the rumors -- there's a 2,560 x 1,600 panel, a pair of Thunderbolt ports, a full-size HDMI socket and a MagSafe 2 power connector. Unfortunately, those yearning for a Retina-equipped MacBook Air won't find their dreams fulfilled just yet, but you can bet that holdouts will most certainly give this guy a look.

For starters, it's wildly thin. No, not manilla envelope thin, but thin enough to slip into most briefcases and backpacks without the consumer even noticing. Outside of that, it's mostly a shrunken version of the 15-incher let loose over the summer. The unibody design is as tight as ever, with the fit and finish continuing to impress. In my estimation, this is Apple's most deliberate move yet to differentiate the 13-inch MacBook Pro from the 13-inch MacBook Air. On one hand, power users longing for a highly portable laptop can rejoice; on the other, this could be seen as reason for Apple to restrict the use of Retina displays to its Pro range for the foreseeable future.

Compared to the 1,280 x 800 resolution of the non-Retina 13-inch MBP, the new display is particularly stunning. Text has never looked more crisp, and colors are stupendously vibrant. Of course, apps, websites and graphics that haven't been optimized for Retina still look like utter rubbish, and as more Apple machines transition to these panels, the outcry is going to get even louder. But, hopefully, it'll light a fire under developers to get with the program.

Eid al-Adah or Bakrid in India

Muslims in India join with their brethren around the globe to observe ?the feast of sacrifice? or ?Eid al-Adah? on the 10th day of the month Dhul Hijjah in the Islamic calendar. The festival is observed over a period of three days and Muslims in India abide by the traditions and celebrate Eid al-Adah with pomp and gaiety. Eid al-Adah also coincides with the pilgrimage undertaken by Muslims to Mecca (Haj)

Eid al-Adah is celebrated in remembrance of divine intervention that saved the Prophet Ibrahim?s son from being sacrificed. According to Islamic belief, the Prophet Ibrahim received a revelation from Allah to sacrifice his only son Ismail. With much burden the Prophet proceeds to obey God. However in honor of his faith, God provides a ram for the sacrifice in the place of the Prophet?s son. Since then Muslims have set aside Eid al-Adah as a festival to sacrifice an animal, either a camel, goat, sheep or cow.

In India, Eid al-Adah is commonly referred to as Bakrid (bakri is goat in Hindi) since it is common for goat sacrifices to be offered for the occasion. Depending on a family?s financial status an animal is procured for the sacrifice. There are certain specifications followed while selecting animals and only those without defects and blemishes are chosen to be offered. Economically backward families join in with others and contribute to buy an animal. Those rearing animals offer any one of their farm or domestic animals as a sacrifice.

The animal offered is split into three portions, one for the consumption of the family, the other to be distributed to friends and neighbors and the third portion to be given away to the poor. Through this tradition, Muslims in India ensure that the joy of their celebration extends beyond their home and that all are included.

On Eid al-Adah or Bakrid, Muslims clean up and wear new clothes. The day begins with a prayer session that is often held in an open area, to accommodate all. Following this Eid greetings are exchanged and the festivities commence in full swing. Giving gifts and sweets to family and friends are also important ingredients of the festival. A sumptuous platter is prepared and the feast is shared with all.

Bakrid is a recognized festival in India and is declared a holiday for schools, colleges and other establishments. Some families make use of the day for outings after feasting on traditional delicacies.

On the whole, Bakrid is an interesting celebration that adds its special hue to colorful Indian festivals and celebrations.

Residential Solar Lease vs Solar Ownership - CleanTechnica

?
If you?re in one of the larger solar markets in the country (California, New Jersey, etc) then ?going solar? doesn?t mean going it alone. You can likely get a ?zero money down? lease or some similar financing tool to reduce the upfront cost. But is it worthwhile? The following analysis, done for a friend in Ithaca, NY, provides some context.

Comparing solar ownership to a solar lease can be tricky. The following analysis examines the value of owning a 5 kW solar PV system which can be used for comparison to a quote from a solar leasing company. Overall, long-term solar ownership can be very profitable.

The comparison can be done in two ways. The first examines the cash flow of two options for paying for your own solar array: with all cash upfront or with a bank loan at 5% interest. If you pay cash, you?ll be making money from day one, including all forecast maintenance costs. If paying off debt, it will cost extra until the loan can be paid off in approximately 5 years.

We?re not taking into account what are called the ?opportunity costs? of the investment ? that is, the return it could earn if put into other types of investments. Consumers rarely do this type of analysis, although businesses often do. We are also not including any tax deduction for the interest paid if the solar array were financed with a home equity loan.

The second common way to evaluate an investment is to examine its return. This can be used to compare it to other investments, like treasury securities, mutual funds, or stocks. As we can see, the cash investment has a good return over 15 years, and both solar financing options provide a good return over 25 years.

Financial Measures of Project Value

Finance Type Years to Payback 15-year ROI 25-year ROI Profit/Loss at 15 years Profit/Loss at 25 years
Cash 10 9% 12.50% $5,000 $16,050
Debt (80% of total cost) 18 n/a 7.50% ($2,400) $8,650

Neither of these analyses take into account the increased appreciation of the home because of having a solar array. A number of studies indicate that, when selling the home, one would get back a significant percentage of the installation value.

Comparison to Solar Leasing

Solar leasing offers several benefits over ownership, but also some potential liabilities. Benefits include no maintenance (yearly cleaning, potential inverter replacement, etc) and little to no upfront investment. But a solar lease should be examined closely and its assumptions compared to those in this analysis:

  • Projected Savings: How do projected savings compare to ownership?
  • Inflation Assumptions: A lease typically has two inflation rates, one for the lease payment (fixed) and one for the grid electricity price (a guess). If the latter ends up being lower than forecast (I?ve seen them as high as 5%!), it can significantly reduce projected savings.
  • Lease End: What happens when the lease expires? Can the system be purchased? How does the purchase price compare to the projected savings to that point? This is very important because of the potential value of the solar array to the resale price of the home. Also, one can inquire whether an inverter replacement had already been done when the system is available for purchase.
  • Company History: Will the company be around in 10-15 years to fulfill their lease requirements?

In summary, comparing ownership to leasing isn?t easy, but this guide can help by comparing the economics and challenging the assumptions of the lease agreement.
?

?

Assumptions for the Economics of Solar Ownership

Upfront Costs

Installed cost: $25,000
Combined incentives: $20,000
Total cost: $5,000

Ongoing Balance Sheet

Maintenance: $250 per year (including inverter replacement every 10-15 years)
Electricity savings: $838 in first year
Finance costs (if applicable): $2,600 per year for 10 years

Inflation, Financing, and Incentives

Estimated solar output: 5,776 kilowatt-hour per year for a 5 kW (DC) system
Estimated installed cost: $25,000 ($5 per Watt)
Federal incentive: 30% tax credit ($7,500)
State incentives: 25% tax credit on installed cost, up to $5,000; NYSERDA rebate of $1.50 per Watt ($7,500)
Electricity price inflation: 3% per year, starting at 14.5? per kilowatt-hour
Panel output decrease: 0.5% per year
Borrowing costs: 5% interest on 10-year, $20,000 loan. Largely paid back in year 2 with incentives.

Sensitivity Analysis

What happens if our assumptions are wrong? The following table compares the 15-year profitability of a PV system paid for with cash under different scenarios.

Then there is probably nothing here for you. For the rest of us, see what you think.

Turn Your Self-Defeating Habits Into Money-Making Skills

Hey Rich Schefren, here again.

I?ve got something really important I want to share with you.

Give me just a couple minutes and I?m going to teach you some things most people have never thought of ? all part of a revolutionary new strategy to help you become more successful than you ever dreamed of.

But first, I have a confession to make.

Most people know me by my success.

Building 3 multi-million dollar businesses. My Internet Business Manifesto. My online business success and coaching.

But, I haven?t always been successful.

And certain personal flaws have held me back all my life.

For one thing, I?m a procrastinator. And, I?m a perfectionist.

Then, to top it all off, I have ADD.

It hasn?t been easy, to say the least.

Now logically, you might think ?Geez, someone with all that baggage couldn?t possibly succeed.?

And that?s how it seemed for a while.

But here?s the thing?

I finally figured out how to ?out-think? my flaws.
And once I figured that out ? success just seemed to flow!

Recently, I?ve started to see just how many other entrepreneurs are being held back by their flaws? same as I was.

Now, some people recognize that personal flaws are blocking their success. And they waste a lot of time and money trying to eliminate these ?bad? behaviors.

Let me tell you how I outfoxed my biggest flaws? procrastination and perfectionism.

I was giving a presentation at a conference, and I knew I had to kick myself in the ass to get my program off the ground.

So, after my presentation I offered 25 openings for one-on-one coaching.

Whoa ? the program sold out instantly, and I got 40 commitments on the spot.

Now I was in a jam.

I had promised to have several months worth of lessons ready for my program ? even though I hadn?t come up with them yet.

Of course, I felt accountable to my new clients.

I don?t like to disappoint, because I?m also obsessive about delivering on my promises.

So I forged ahead and set the dates and times for the calls right away.

And that forced me to come up with the material in time for the calls, or be completely humiliated in front of my clients.

In the end, it was a huge success. The program went off without a hitch.

All together, my first 25 clients increased their online revenues by over $40 million in just 18 months, and the rest is history. I was on my way.

But just to be clear:
I never ?cured? my procrastination or perfectionism?
I just learned how to make it an advantage in what I do.

And lately, my attention has been on what?s holding my clients back.

Just recently, I realized that I was watching one person after another struggling with this same problem.

They get stuck in the same cycle, thinking that they have to change themselves to overcome some flaw that?s handicapping them.

And that?s when it hit me like a ton of bricks.

They all think the same thing I used to?that they had to somehow change themselves to become successful.

That?s when I realized just how many entrepreneurs were out there who needed the strategies I have to get around their own flaws.

Because in reality, trying to change who you are is usually just another path to failure. It?s simply too difficult.

They can?t see that there?s a faster, easier way.

That there?s no need to take the long, hard road of trying to change who you are.

That there is ? just like I set for myself ? a simple way to walk right around your flaws.

I?m talking about a thinking process that will not only make those flaws irrelevant, but will change them into some of your biggest strengths.

Behaviors like self-doubt, procrastination, being distracted, or having trouble deciding what to do next can all simply be planned around.

By using the simple techniques I?m going to show you, you can easily go:

From Information Overload ? to having clarity on what information you can use right now, and what information you can get to later?
From Procrastinating ? to starting projects sooner than expected and finishing them on time, every time?
From Being Distracted ? to knocking out your To-do list every single day of the week.
And from indecision ? to flying towards your goals like never before.

I?m telling you this because I hear these problems all the time from my clients.

They think they?re carrying some baggage that?s dragging them down from success.

And I always have to tell them it?s nonsense.

It?s just their thinking process that?s holding them back.
The Most Successful Entrepreneurs We Look Up To
Succeeded DESPITE Their Flaws.

Regions Financial shares drop as yields shrink

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) ? Regions Financial Corp. on Tuesday posted sharply higher third-quarter earnings, as the regional bank set aside less cash to cover loan losses. But its shares fell sharply in morning trading after the results showed record-low interest rates cut into interest income from loan and deposits.

Regions reported net income of $301 million, or 21 cents per share, for the three months ended Sept. 30. That was nearly three times the size of the company's earnings in the year-ago period, when net income was $101 million, or 8 cents per share.

Excluding an $11 million loss from a discontinued operation, Regions' adjusted earnings 22 cents per share.

Analysts surveyed by FactSet had expected adjusted earnings of 21 cents per share, on average. Analysts' forecasts typically exclude one-time items.

Regions said its aggregate loan yield was 4.18 percent, down from 4.29 percent in this year's second quarter. Regions, like many other banks, has been pressured by historic low interest rates, which have been driven down in part by the Federal Reserve policies to stimulate the economic recovery and encourage borrowing and investment. Regions also attributed the decline in its loan yield to a greater number of borrowers paying off mortgages early, as well as pricing competition.

Shares of Regions fell 51 cents, or 7.2 percent, to $6.57 in morning trading. The stock has traded in a 52-week range of $3.51 to $7.73, and is still up more than 50 percent since the start of the year.

Regions also reported a decline in its net interest margin, which fell to 3.08 percent from 3.16 percent in this year's second quarter. Net interest margin, considered a key measure of a bank's profitability, is the difference between interest a bank collects on loans and interest it must pay to depositors and other lenders.

Jefferies & Co. analyst Ken Usdin said in a note to clients that the net interest margin performance "will be seen as disappointing." He said the company had indicated it expected that metric to remain stable in the latter half of this year, along with net interest income, or earnings from traditional banking operations like deposits and loans.

Net interest income slipped nearly 4 percent in the latest quarter to $817 million, from $850 million in the year-ago period.

That decline was offset by improved loan performance. Regions' provision for loan losses, or money set aside to cover souring loans, plunged to $33 million from $355 million in the year-ago quarter, although it rose slightly from $26 million in this year's second quarter.

Net charge-offs, or loans that have been written off as uncollectible, declined to 1.38 percent of average net loans from 2.52 percent in the year-ago quarter, and from 1.39 percent in this year's second quarter.

Revenue from Regions' mortgage business increased to a record high of $106 million, up 56 percent from the year-ago period.

Regions reported $12 million in securities gains in the latest quarter, compared with a $1 million securities loss a year ago. Other non-interest income, such as earnings from fees and service charges, rose about 1 percent to $521 million from $514 million.

Separately, Regions said on Tuesday that it expects to consider issuing preferred stock in an underwritten public offering "in the near future." Proceeds would be used for general corporate purposes.

Regions, based in Birmingham, Ala., operates in 16 states across the South, the Midwest and Texas, with about 1,700 branches.

CARACOL, Haiti (AP) ? Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton encouraged foreigners to invest in Haiti as she and her husband Bill led a star-studded delegation gathered Monday to inaugurate a new industrial park at the center of U.S. efforts to help the country rebuild after the 2010 earthquake.

Actors Sean Penn and Ben Stiller, fashion designer Donna Karan and British business magnate Richard Branson were among the luminaries at the opening of the new Caracol Industrial Park, which is projected to create thousands of jobs more than 100 miles from the quake-ravaged capital of Port-au-Prince.

Hillary Rodham Clinton told a roomful of investors gathered for a luncheon that she had made Haiti a priority when she became Secretary of State.

"We had learned that supporting long-term prosperity in Haiti meant more than providing aid," she said. "It required investments in infrastructure and the economy that would help the Haitian people achieve their own dreams.

"So we shifted our assistance to investments to address some of the biggest challenges facing this country: creating jobs and sustainable economic growth," she added.

Earlier Monday, thousands of Haitians lined the roadway to wave at her motorcade as it wound its way from the airport. Hillary Rodham Clinton and other U.S. officials, including Labor Secretary Hilda Solis and Sen. Patrick Leahy, a Democrat from Vermont, toured a housing development for industrial park workers supported by the U.S. Agency for International Development.

The Secretary of State noted there were three presidents gathered in one room to celebrate the opening: her husband, former American President Bill Clinton, current Haitian President Michel Martelly and his predecessor Rene Preval.

Bill Clinton, now a U.N. special envoy for Haiti, arrived in Caracol separately from his wife.

The Clintons and their allies hope that the $300 million industrial facility will transform the northern part of this impoverished country by providing thousands of desperately needed jobs.

But some Haitians say the industrial park does little more than replicate failed efforts from the past and will benefit outsiders more than Haitians. They also worry it will harm some of the few pieces of undamaged environment that still exist in Haiti.

"It's really all-in on this project, and there's a high bar to deliver," said Laurent Dubois, a historian who teaches at Duke University and is author of "Haiti: The Aftershocks of History." ''It really needs to deliver in a big way so that people will think, yeah, this was the right thing to do."

The stakes are high in large part because the Clintons have been so heavily involved.

The Caracol project was in the works before the earthquake but it became a top priority for the Obama administration soon after the disaster. Hillary Rodham Clinton's chief of staff, Cheryl Mills, has made almost monthly visits to the site on Haiti's northern coast.

Bill Clinton also took an interest. He attended the project's groundbreaking a year ago with Martelly.

The $124 million put in by the U.S. makes the park Washington's biggest single investment in the aftermath of the quake and it is certain to shape the legacy of the Clintons, who last visited Haiti together in 1975 on a wedding gift following their honeymoon in Mexico.

Monday's trip is Hillary Rodham Clinton's third to Haiti since the earthquake, and there have been more than a dozen visits by her husband, who was co-chairman of an earthquake recovery panel before its mandate ended a year ago.

The industrial park to be inaugurated by the Clintons was built on a 617-acre (250-hectare) site meant to "decentralize" Haiti's economy away from the crowded capital of Port-au-Prince and help develop the long-neglected countryside.

The anchor tenant is South Korean apparel giant Sae-A Trading Co. Ltd, which begun production in May. It has agreed to create 20,000 permanent jobs within six years and also build 5,000 houses. Backers say the entire park has the potential to generate up to 65,000 jobs in all.

Sae-A, which shipped 76,000 T-shirts to Wal-Mart in the United States on Oct. 15, says it is training 1,050 people it has hired, 70 percent of them from the area surrounding Caracol. Daniel Cho, a representative of Sae-A in Haiti, said the employees will be paid almost $5 for eight hours of work.

A local paint manufacturing company, Peintures Caraibes SA, became the second tenant in July and will export paint made by Sherwin Williams along with its own paint; production begins next month. It's supposed to hire 350 people.

Details are still being worked on to bring in other tenants, but the project's architects hope its duty-free status and a 15-year tax holiday will lure more.

Everyone agrees Haiti needs jobs. The country of about 10 million people is among the world's poorest, and unemployment and underemployment hover around 60 percent.

Despite the promises of up to 65,000 jobs at the site, and projections of possibly 133,000 more jobs through related cottage industries, the Caracol project has drawn much skepticism.

Critics say it's not much different from the factories to make baseballs for the U.S. sport that were built in the 1970s and 1980s under the regime of playboy dictator Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier.

Those jobs prompted thousands of farmers to leave their fields for the capital, and agricultural areas suffered from neglect. Shantytowns like Cite Soleil emerged to house the new workers. The factories got tax breaks but there was no income to offset Duvalier's alleged plundering of state coffers.

Haiti was supposed to become the "Taiwan of the Caribbean" but instead suffered through economic collapse brought on by political instability.

"This is: Been there, done that," Alex Dupuy, a Haiti-born sociologist who teaches at Wesleyan University in Connecticut, said of the Caracol project.

Because of the tenants' tax breaks, outside investors will have more to gain than Haitians, he said.

"This is not a strategy that is meant to provide Haiti with any measure of sustainable development ... The only reason those industries come to Haiti is because the country has the lowest wages in the region," Dupuy said.

Backers of Caracol stress that it will bring tens of thousands of jobs to an area where subsistence farming has long been the only alternative to migration. Jean Cherenfant, mayor of Cap-Haitien, a seaside city 13 miles (21 kilometers) from Caracol, sees the facility as a boon.

"We don't have a lot of employers here, and we're talking about several hundred thousand jobs," Cherenfant said by telephone. "I will not go along with those people who are pessimistic."

The Raleigh Little Theatre cast for ?Alfred Hitchcock?s The 39 Steps? includes (from left) Tony Hefner, Jesse R. Gephart, Staci Sabarsky, and Del Flack (photo by Curtis Brown Photography)

Any fan of the 1935 film The 39 Steps or any Alfred Hitchcock devotee should be positively delighted with Raleigh Little Theatre?s production of the play by the same name. Others, however, will likely be lost, bored, and a little overwhelmed with this excessively silly and frenzied comedy. The show follows Richard Hannay (Jesse Gephart) on a misadventure that begins when he meets a secretive woman, Annabella (Staci Sabarsky) at a theatre. He allows her to stay in his home overnight, wakes up to find that she has been murdered, and then spends the rest of the play on the run and falling into one blunder after another.

Though the beginning of the show is intriguing, things quickly go downhill. After the first six or seven ?comedic? mishaps, the production turns into one long, confusing blur with the same jokes being repeated over and over again and Hitchcock references being thrown in haphazardly. While most audience members wait patiently for the ending, which seems to never come, many at Sunday?s matinee did not return after the intermission, and it?s hard to blame them.

To be fair, the small cast (which the script calls for) gives it their all. Gephart is characteristically funny and goofy, making him perfect for his singular role. The rest of the cast, however, juggles multiple roles. Sabarsky is sometimes charming and fun to watch, taking turns as characters Annabella, Margaret, and Pamela, but her unclear accents and often-flat delivery could stand some work. Tony Hefner and Del Flack add some much needed humor (the kind that?s actually funny!) in their constantly-changing ?clown? roles.

While there are likely a few people out there who will get their kicks with this show and find it uproariously funny, most will wish they?d sat this one out. It is simply too outdated, too over-the-top, and just too silly for modern viewers.

larreykimson: food: slow cooker beef with balsamic ? eat. drink. fly ...

food: slow cooker beef with?balsamic

so this is fun? the leaves are falling, the air is chilled? that means its SLOW COOKER SEASON!
hooray!? every lazy cook?s favourite time of the year.? i for one, am a huge fan.
but i?ll be honest? there gets to be a point when everything you throw in the slow cooker kinda starts to feel the same? it?s broth or tomato base? its a soup or a stew? since it comes from *my* slow cooker, its usually spicy and slightly mexican seasoned? it has mirepoix or similar for the veg?

yes, its easy to get into a slow cooker rut.
i did however find a fun listing of ?30 nights of paleo crock pot meals? which has breathed new life into my slow cooker (can i from here on just refer to it as the SC? perfect.)

so yesterday i decided to try out the recipe from civilized caveman cooking for a balsamic roast.
i basically had all the ingredients in my house (besides the roast, which a quick trip to the farm solved) and it sounded different and tasty.? plus we buy a balsamic vinegar from costco that is not only delicious, but in a giant bottle, so i always feel the need to cook with a lot of it whenever possible.

step 1 ? season & sear off the roast.

i used paprika, garlic salt, salt & pepper for seasoning and then seared it at high heat with coconut oil in my non stick.
it was smoky in my kitchen for 5am, lol.? but we were rewarded with a beautiful sear on that little fucker.
oh, it was a small beef top sirloin roast about 1lb ? served 2 people.? the recipe calls for a 2lb roast but obviously serves more.

step 2 ? veggies meet meat.

20121018-062855.jpg

the recipe called for onions only, but i had carrots & celery handy, so i threw together the tried & true mirepoix.
i used a whole yellow onion as per the recipe and 2 sticks of celery & 2 carrots.
then lovingly placed the seared roast on top.

step 3 ? add liquid.

20121018-062905.jpg

the recipe told me to deglaze the pan with the wine & water, but since i seared mine at such a high heat, the pan had some black bits that i decided i should live without.
also, the recipe calls for white wine ? which with beef seemed weird to me. so i used red.? also i had red open already and not white, so there?s that.
i combined the following and poured it into the SC:
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1 cup tomato sauce (i used the italian kind in the glass bottle)
- 1/2 cup of red wine
- 1/3 cup of water
of course, throw in a pinch of salt for good measure and some cracked black pepper.

step 4 ? cook on low for however long you?re going to be out of the house for.? mine went for 12 hours.

20121018-062917.jpg

step 5 ? serve and eat up!

20121018-062925.jpg

final thoughts ? as always, i think every recipe can benefit from chili flakes. but also i think its worth mentioning that often in recipes like this, i?ll remove the meat and use my immersion blender to puree the slow cooked veg, making the sauce thicker and more gravy-like.? that would have been delightful in this case.
the vinegar gave a nice acidity but didn?t overwhelm anything and the beef turned out delightfully slow cooker perfect.
and my house smelled fucking spectacular when i got home.
SC win!

here?s the original recipe for those that like to play by the rules.

Crockpot Balsamic Roast

Ingredients

  • 2 Lb any roast, I used Top Round
  • 1 Large Sweet Onion, sliced
  • 8 Ounces Tomato Sauce
  • 1/2 Cup Balsamic Vinegar
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 2 Tbsp White Wine
  • 2 Tbsp Coconut Oil
  • Rub(Amount to your taste): Salt, Black Pepper, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Smoked Paprika

Cooking Steps

Season your roast on both sides generously with the spices listed above to your liking
Heat your coconut oil in a large pan over medium-high heat, once warm sear each side of your roast for 3-4 minutes
Place your sliced onions in the bottom of your crock pot and put your seared meat on top of the onions
Combine your balsamic vinegar and tomato sauce in a bowl and mix well, then pour over your meat in the crock pot
Add your water and white wine to your pan and de-glaze it
Pour this mixture in your crock pot as well
Place the lid on, set to low and cook for 6-8 hours
Enjoy

Bombs in market, shootings kill 17 in Iraq

(AP) ? Back-to-back bomb blasts in a crowded Baghdad market near a revered Shiite shrine and a string of shootings targeting government officials killed at least 17 people Saturday.

The bombings, which happened within about a minute of each other, appeared be aimed at intimidating Iraq's Shiites, who are a frequent target of Sunni insurgents. Police said at least 11 people were killed and 35 were wounded.

The blasts struck about 500 meters (yards) from a shrine where two revered imams are buried, damaging nearby shops and buildings, according to police, who confirmed the casualty figures.

The attacks came as many shoppers were out buying new clothes in anticipation of the Eid al-Adha holiday, which begins in about a week.

"It was a busy time for shopping, so there were a lot of people around," said Ahmed Naseer, the owner of a stationary shop nearby. "When I came out, I saw burning carts and merchant stalls, and children crying and women screaming out of fear. The whole place was full of panic."

Earlier in the day, gunmen opened fire on a police patrol in the Shiite neighborhood of al-Shaab, killing two policemen and wounding another.

Authorities also said gunmen shot dead a police lieutenant colonel who worked with the State Identity Directorate late Friday in the capital's Karradah district.

Hospital officials confirmed the deaths in the Baghdad attacks.

Near the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, gunmen attacked a police checkpoint and killed three officers, according to two police officials.

All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to speak to the media.

Gunmen also shot and killed a prison official in a drive-by-shooting during the morning rush hour in eastern Baghdad, said Justice Ministry spokesman Haider al-Saadi.

Violence has ebbed in Iraq since the peak of the bloodletting in 2005-2008, but insurgents still frequently attack predominantly Shiite areas, government officials and security forces in an attempt to undermine the Shiite-led government.

Saturday's attacks marked Iraq's deadliest day since Sept. 30, when a string of coordinated blasts that hit Shiite neighborhoods and struck at Iraqi security forces left at least 26 dead.
